Purpose
The Remedial and Tutorial Support component of RISE offers targeted academic help for students who need additional guidance outside regular classroom hours. These support systems are designed to ensure that all students receive the help they need to improve and succeed in their English language studies.
Tutorial Support
Tutorial lessons are one-on-one or small-group sessions offered by assistant instructors. These lessons can be requested by any student at any point during the academic year for help with:
- Specific language skills (e.g., writing, grammar, reading)
- Homework or project questions
- Clarifying challenging topics from class
In addition, students who score below the required achievement level—as identified through official assessments—may be required by the School of Foreign Languages to attend a set number of tutorial lessons as part of their academic support plan.
Remedial Courses
Remedial courses are structured extra classes that focus on areas where students commonly struggle. These lessons are designed, scheduled, and announced by the School of Foreign Languages and are delivered by full-time instructors.
Students who are identified as needing support, based on performance, progress, or instructor referral, are required to attend these lessons.
